Summer Camp 2012

Summer is on its best behavior, school is out and the El Cajon LUGGers are as free as butterflies...

Well, the butterfly was free before it was caught, of course...
We are now half way through this year's summer camp, and we are having a lot of fun playing golf and games...

... most of the times simultaneously.

If you are free on Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 3-5PM next week, come out and join us at Cottonwood GC!

Summer Camp 2012

Hey Everyone!
I hope everyone is taking this time to enjoy their summer vacations.

As a reminder, we will be having Summer Camp Starting Monday July 23rd 3-5pm, and continuing every Mon-Wed-Fri Through August 3. So be sure to keep those dates open! We are also opening up summer camp to friends you may want to bring along, and past members! The more the merrier, and now is the time to get tuned up for the Fall Golf Season for you Team players!

Summer camp will cover: Scoring on & around the green, pitching and sand shots, full swing mechanics, fairway woods and Drivers off the tee, playing on the course and managing yourself, and of course, the rules of golf and etiquette. As usual, we will venture "outside your box" and be creative!

Finally, and the main reason for this reminder, is the monthly Sunday afternoon family Clinic this Sunday (July 15th), which happens to be our Family 9-hole Scramble starting at 3pm. If you are planning on attending, please contact me ( mary.paulson@lpgapro.com ) by this Saturday afternoon so that I can make arrangements with the golf course for Tee times and groupings. Cost to play will be $10 per person.

If you don't want to play 9 holes, and only have time from 3-4:30pm, I will also hold spaces on the range and work with you during a normal girls golf family clinic! So there are options!

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Happy 1 putts,
Coach Mary~

Sandy start to June (4 Jun 2012)

Apologies for a tardy update! We had a beachy time last event on June 4th, learning about pitching and the sand shot.

Many golfers get demoralized at the thought of hitting their ball out of the bunker, but it really is one of the easier up and down shots from around the green (providing that the ball isn't plucked or the bunker's lip isn't resembling a Waikiki wave, of course!). You don't even have to actually hit the ball!

Yes, it is almost as easy as the pros make it looks... as long as you remember to not ground your club in the hazard, open the club face wide and open your stance (the club face faces the target, and you line your body up to the left of the target if you are a right-hander), and have fun splashing out the sand an inch or so behind the ball.

Sand shots really are a blast! They pop right on to the green and do the cool little backspin check after a hop or two, so you can fly the ball almost to the hole much of the time. And if the sand in the bunker is particularly light, you might even get sand in your hair and collar and maybe even in your shoes! Remember to rake the bunker after you are done playing, though. Leave it as you found it or better. Not everyone likes to hit their ball out of someone else's shoe print!

Spring is a wonderful golfing time in San Diego County. Come out and join us at our next event on June 18th (3-5PM) at Cottonwood GC!

May 14

Hey LUGGers! Spring sure is a busy season. So many things to do and so little time! Many LUGGERs are busy playing a few different sports, so our May 14th event had a smaller turn out than usual.
Smaller turn out doesn't mean smaller fun, however! We spent some quality time on the range learning to set up a proper distance to hit the ball, before moving over to the chipping area for some good up and down game. We also got to check out this year's LPGA-USGA Girls Golf kit which includes some really cool goodies.

Our next proper event isn't until Monday June 4th (3-5PM), but we also have another Family Clinic on the afternoon of Sunday June 3rd (3-4:30PM). Both are at Cottonwood GC, of course. Hope to see you there!
